Goddess that movie is so scary lol...
Now for my personal grudge...my parents wanted to take the kids to spend the night with them, and go to their church in the morning. I'm having a crisis over this...first of all, I don't like their church. It's a Baptist church, and I'm Wiccan. I'd like to raise my children tolerant of all religion, yet knowledgeable about each, so that in time they can make an educated choice of which they prefer to follow, if they don't prefer to remain agnostic. I realize that my parents want what they feel is best for my children, and although they have finally stopped asking me to join them on Sunday mornings, understanding that I am not going to EVER set foot in that hypocrisy-filled building again, but I feel that somehow I ought to step in and take more of a stand against them going to this church.
I do not hate anyone of another religion, nor do I try to force my choices on others, particularly my children (this was done to us while we were growing up). But I'm afraid that, given the nature of the Baptist religion, they will be taught that there is only ONE way to live, and that's THEIR way. I don't want my children learning that there is no grey area, only black and white. I simply don't believe that it's that cut and dry, when you're talking about God and His/Her existence.
I live by the credo "Harm none", and I realize that to call my parents out on this and prevent them from taking my children to church with them would be violating that creed, because that would make my mother cry. I don't like doing that, but I don't like thinking that my children will grow up to be mindless zombies, doing whatever the church has brainwashed them to do.
Perhaps they will be more like me, and be open-minded to other religions while attending a church with their grandparents.
Here's hoping they don't ask their Sunday School teachers questions about Wicca...;) |
